New York, NY –
A security breach at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport stalled flights and delayed passengers for hours on Saturday afternoon. Terminal 8 at Kennedy airport was evacuated just after 4PM.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the security breach involved a passenger getting off a flight from Florida who opened and walked through a door that was supposed to be used only by airport workers. Port Authority says that the passenger went through an alarmed door in the American Airlines lounge and that cameras recorded the security breach.
Passengers waiting for American Airlines flights were rushed out of the terminal by TSA officers. At 5:06PM, about an hour after the evacuation, an announcement was made for airline staff to return to the terminal and pass through security.
All of the security checkpoints were reopened at approximately 5:57PM and passengers are being re-screened.
