New York, NY –
Senator Espada's legal troubles are inspiring some lawmakers to call for new leadership in the chamber. Karen DeWitt has more from Albany.
REPORTER: State Senator Marty Golden, a Brooklyn Republican, has introduced an amendment calling for Senate Majority Leader Espada to step down from his leadership post until state and federal investigations about Espada's business dealings are finished. Senator Golden says he's considering extending his resolution to include Senate President Malcolm Smith. Smith's involvement with some not-for-profit groups is also the subject of a federal probe.
GOLDEN: It's ludicrous that the way the culture of corruption in this hierarchy of the Senate Democratic leadership here in the Senate is hypercritical.
DEWITT: Golden says he's giving Senate Democrats a few days to clean their own house before actually putting the amendment on the senate floor.
