President Obama in NYC for Four Days

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

The president is in town, and New Yorkers know what that means -- street closures, barricades, and lots of cops. Get used to it, he's for a few days. Marianne McCune has more.

He came Monday and did the Late Show with David Letterman and he's staying through Thursday, when he heads up the United Nations Security Council meeting. In between, President Barack Obama has a predictably busy schedule - today, the UN climate summit and the Clinton Global Initiative - former President Bill Clinton's attempt to link do-gooders with power-holders. Tomorrow, Obama addresses the UN General Assembly. He's got a slew of side meetings with foreign leaders - such as the Israeli prime minister and the Palestinian Authority's President. Also - Sub-Saharan African leaders, UN peacekeepers, Russia, China, Japan. He's staying at the Waldorf Astoria. You can venture to midtown to try to catch a glimpse, but leave time for traffic.

For WNYC, I'm Marianne McCune
