NYPD Prepares for UN General Assembly

This week the leadership from almost every nation on the planet will converge at UN Headquarters for the General Assembly. WNYC's Bob Hennelly reports on the challenges the NYPD will face.
REPORTER: It's not just the 140 heads of state and a four-day visit from President Obama. The NYPD also has to coordinate with 31 separate protest groups who hope to attract thousands to the UN's neighborhood. Commissioner Kelly says their causes will be literally all over the world map.
KELLY: And it means we have to do research, and finding out exactly what’s happening in some of these other countries. So it's not easy.
REPORTER: Kelly expects Wednesday to be the busiest day with demonstrations planned to protest the presence of Libya's Muammar Gaddafi and Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinajad. For WNYC I am Bob Hennelly.
