Tracing the Biological Past

Friday, October 09, 2009

The New York Foundling is one of New York City's oldest and largest foster care agencies. It's history goes back to 1869 when the founders, a group of nuns, used to leave a wicker basket for abandoned babies outside a West Village brownstone.

Hundreds of thousands of children have passed through the doors of the Foundling, and this weekend, hundreds of them are expected to attend a gathering in honor of the organization's 140th anniversary. Many will be looking for clues about their biological families. As the Foundling's record keeper, Wendy Freund is the person who provides people with details about their past.
