Cortland Street Station: Back on Track

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Straphangers in lower Manhattan can now head uptown on the R and W subway trains via the newly re-opened Cortland Street Station.

MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz says the station was damaged in the terrorist attacks of 2001 and closed while construction workers excavated and rebuilt the site.

He says straphangers should notice some changes including, wider stairways, and a 150-foot long section of newly rehabilitated platform that is wider than before.

The $7.25 million rehabilitated station was a federally funded project. It is located next to Century 21, the Millennium Hotel, and across the street from the World Trade Center site.
