New York, NY –
Governor Paterson says lawmakers can't continue to avoid the state's $3.2 billion budget deficit. He says New York is quickly running out of money, and without deep cuts in education and healthcare, the state will end up paying huge late fees on its debts. Paterson says he won't let that happen.
PATERSON: We have to save our state and I will exhort to any means to try to make sure that we save our credit rating so that our payments go to programs and not interest.
REPORTER: Paterson spoke in Niagara Falls yesterday. Lawmakers met in another special session but no agreement was reached. The governor says he's prepared to force lawmakers to remain in Albany over the Thanksgiving holiday.
