More Talk, Not Progress, in NYS Budget

Monday, November 23, 2009

New York State lawmakers are scheduled to be back in Albany today, after Friday's legislative session was canceled. Governor Paterson says he's willing to hold lawmakers in the capitol through the holiday week if it will help them reach a deal to close the state's over $3-billion budget deficit.

Paterson sent a letter to lawmakers yesterday, urging them to make the tough decisions, like making cuts to education and healthcare.

Meanwhile, Senate Conference Leader, John Sampson, issued a response to the governor saying Senate Democrats believe there's a better way. He says they'll work with the Governor to close the budget gap, and avoid layoffs of state workers and deeper cuts in next year's budget.
