FDNY Changes 911 Procedures After Deadly Delay

The FDNY is temporarily changing the way it handles 911 calls about fires. The move comes after fire union officials said a new dispatch system caused a delay in getting to a deadly Brooklyn blaze this week. Under that dispatch system, police call takers sent fire information to FDNY dispatchers. Now, those dispatchers will be on the line for the 911 calls, to double-check the information and ask additional questions if necessary. The fire in Crown Heights on Wednesday killed two young boys and their father.
