Paterson Presses for Budget Deal Amid Partisan Struggle
Thursday, November 19, 2009
New York, NY –
The New York legislature enacted a tougher law against drunk drivers and agreed to reform the state's public authorities, but lawmakers still haven't hammered out a budget deal.
Governor Paterson says a power struggle between Senate Democrats and Republicans might be holding things up, and everyone wants to save face.
PATERSON: Between the two houses, there is a certain amount of desire not to be ridiculed in front of the public for cutting school aid or cutting health care.
REPORTER: Governor Paterson says if the legislature does not come to a budget agreement, he'll try to figure out if he can take action on his own, with the state comptroller and his budget director.
