Senate Special Session Ended With No Deficit or Same-Sex Marriage Action
Wednesday, November 11, 2009
New York, NY –
A special session of the New York state legislature ended with no action on reducing the state’s deficit, or legalizing same-sex marriage, but Governor Paterson says he’s determined to try again next week. Karen DeWitt reports from Albany.
REPORTER: Late in the day, after the legislature failed to agree on a plan to close the state's budget gap or vote on legalizing gay marriage, Governor Paterson said he was sending both houses home and trying for better luck next week.
PATERSON: We'll continue the dialogue. I'll probably have a leaders meeting or two in the interim and bring the legislature in Monday and Tuesday of next week to complete this deficit reduction program.
REPORTER: The Governor says he'll put the bill to legalize gay marriage on the special session next week as well. In Albany, I'm Karen Dewitt.
