If you haven't noticed, New York City is in the midst of re-thinking its street space. One person who's been influential in articulating the philosophy behind those changes is the former mayor of Bogota, Colombia --- Enrique Pena Losa.
WNYC's Andrea Bernstein recently sat down with Penalosa, who brought-the Transmilleneo system to Bogota at the beginning of the decade. In Bus Rapid Transit, buses work like above ground subways, with turnstiles, platforms, and clear roadways. Penalosa says BRT could revolutionize New York's Transit network -- without expensive new subway lines.
Hearings on BRT in New York City begin tonight at the College of New Rochelle in the Bronx. Bronx.
