Ad Campaign Slams Same-Sex Marriage in NY

Thursday, May 28, 2009

The National Organization for Marriage, the conservative Christian group that helped push through Proposition 8, the bill that defeated same-sex marriage in California has launched an advertisement campaign in New York State today.

VOICE OVER: Think same-sex marriage doesn't affect your family? Legalizing gay marriage has consequences for kids.

REPORTER: The ad warns that public schools could be forced to teach students about homosexual unions. It also says the rights of those who believe marriage should only be between a man and a woman will no longer matter.

The spot will run through the end of the month in the city and on Long Island and upstate. A marriage equality bill that would legalize same sex marriage in New York has already passed the Assembly but hasn't been taken up in the Senate. If passed Governor Paterson has pledged to sigh the bill into law.

The Legislative session ends on June 22nd.
