Don't expect many New York Republicans to cross party lines and vote for the MTA rescue package. The Senate Minority Leader, Dean Skelos, says it doesn't look like much of a rescue for commuters in his Long Island district.

SKELOS: All I see is a lot of taxes and fees and higher fares -- 27 percent over the next couple of years. That's not exactly saving the Long Island Rail Road rider.

The rescue bill caps the next fare hike at an average 10 percent, to take effect this summer. But it also calls for 7.5 percent hikes in 2011 and 2013. The bill also calls for a payroll tax, a higher car rental tax, higher DMV fees and a 50-cent-a-ride surcharge on cab rides.

Democrats say they have enough votes to assure passage in both the Assembly and Senate. Voting is expected to begin in the Senate later today.
