City Council Honors Gloria Steinem

Wednesday, May 06, 2009

Writer and feminist Gloria Steinem was honored by the City Council today for her work advancing women's rights. Steinem says she came to the city nearly 50 years ago and still loves it.

STEINEM: New York seemed to be a free place, that's why i came here. I saw a survey lately that said people in New York were happier than any place else and I think it's because we are a community.

Steinem recently turned 75. She says she could not have a better birthday present than the Council's proclamation to honor her.
