NY AG Hopes to Recoup $80 Million of AIG Bonuses
Tuesday, March 24, 2009
New York, NY –
New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says he still hopes that more AIG employees will return their bonuses.
In a conference call with reporters last evening, Cuomo saluted the 15 AIG employees who are returning some of the largest bonuses, more then $30 million.
CUOMO: I would like to say to the individuals who have given the money back: You have done the quote unquote the right thing, you've done what this country now needs and demands.
REPORTER: Cuomo expects his office will be able to recoup roughly $50 million more of the money AIG paid out. More than half of the $165 million awarded by the insurer went to non-Americans and is outside Cuomo's jurisdiction.
