WNYC has learned that a controversial project to convert a former landfill in the Jersey Meadowlands into a golf course and luxury housing is now the subject of an FBI probe. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.
The project is supposed to the pride of Rutherford and North Arlington, but nine years and as much as $300 million in federal, state, and Bergen County money later, it's still nowhere close to being ready. Now the FBI is taking documents from the Hackensack Meadowlands Commission -- the group that signed off on a deal with a private developer in 2000. That developer filed for bankruptcy last year after New Jersey's inspector general concluded the company had misrepresented its capabilities and financial resources. For WNYC, I'm Bob Hennelly.
