Crane Collapse Blamed on Workers

A report commissioned by the city's Buildings Department blames the crane collapse that killed seven people last March on workers, who didn't use the right equipment or procedures to raise the crane. Commissioner Robert LiMandri says his inspectors would not have caught the mistakes because, at the time, they were not required to be on site.
LIMANDRI: And what now happens is that they notify us. We show up and we actually make sure that all the new rules being put into place are being followed.
The crane collapse last year on March 15th, and another one in May, focused attention on construction safety, and prompted the resignation of LiMandri's predecessor.
