Car-Free Summer Streets
Monday, June 29, 2009
New York, NY –
Cars will not be welcome once again on Park Avenue and other city streets later this summer. Transportation officials are once again shutting down a seven-mile stretch from the Brooklyn Bridge, to Central Park, on three Saturdays in August. Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan says the car-free streets give New Yorkers a chance to slow down this summer and explore the city on foot.
SADIK-KHAN: And it's about creating a little bit more room to enjoy the streets and the great neighborhoods that make New York City what it is.
Sadik-Kahn says there will also be smaller street closures in the outer boroughs.
