Bloomberg Warns Bureaucracy Will Mushroom Without Him

Friday, June 26, 2009

Mayor Bloomberg says the city school system would become a much bigger bureaucracy if the Senate doesn't renew the law giving him control of the school system.

BLOOMBERG: We've taken roughly $350 million a year out of the bureaucracy and put it back into the classroom. Overnight you'll need to send letters to principals we don't know how long this is going to go on, start sending the money back or in your budget send it back.

REPORTER: The mayor spoke on his weekly radio show. He says he's still optimistic the Senate will resolve its problems and pass a bill extending mayoral control before the June 30th deadline.
