City Vehicles to Pay MTA Tolls
Friday, July 31, 2009
New York, NY –
The city has agreed to pay the MTA for the bridge and tunnel tolls racked up by city vehicles. Until now, city vehicles have been exempt. On WOR this morning, Mayor Bloomberg said he does not blame the agency for wanting the city to pay up.
BLOOMBERG: Every government agency has to protect their funding sources, their revenue. Because every government agency, whether it's federal, state, city agencies or authorities or whatever, we hope we're holding the managers responsible, so they want to make sure they get their money.
The mayor's office says the annual payments to the MTA will likely be millions of dollars, but the final amount has not yet been determined. It says marked emergency vehicles will continue to be exempt from tolls.
