WTC Planners Scout Alt. Location for Performing Arts Center

Friday, July 24, 2009

City and state planners are studying a way to get the performing arts center at the World Trade Center site built more quickly. The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation is considering moving the location from the northern end to the southern end - where the site of the former Deutsche Bank building may be available sooner.

Port Authority Executive Director Chris Ward says he still wants an office building to go on the southern end of the site, but he says the two ideas could be combined.

WARD: People have started talking about that, that there are other locations throughout the world that have performing arts centers in the base of the structure and that's what needs to be looked at.

REPORTER: A spokesman for the LMDC says it'll be two to three weeks before the feasibility study is completed.
