REPORTER: Many states already have e-waste laws, and passing one in New York was considered enough of a priority that it made it onto the senate's special session docket. Republican Senator Carl Marcellino says the e-waste bill should be changed to accommodate New York based-companies like Canon.
MARCELLINO: So that these companies stay where they are and we don't lose jobs in New York State.
REPORTER: Senators say they'll try again to pass an e-waste law later this year. Meanwhile, New York City's e-waste law takes effect at the end of the month.
For WNYC, I'm Ilya Marritz.
