Fans in Harlem Gather for the Jackson Memorial

Tuesday, July 07, 2009

Hundreds of Michael Jackson fans crowded outside a state office building in Harlem to watch the singer's memorial on a massive jumbo-tron. Many wore t-shirts, held pictures or waved flags commemorating moments from the 50-year-old entertainer's life. Marsha Darlington says she made the trek from New Jersey with her daughter and granddaughter to watch the service:

DARLINGTON: "Michael is two years older than me - so I remember when Michael had his afro, and his original nose and he looked just like me and we really looked up to Michael when we were younger. I wanted my granddaughter to see who my idol was.

Many chanted the singers name and wiped tears away throughout the memorial, which lasted over two hours.
