New York, NY –
As Democrats and Republicans in the state Senate continue to fight over who's in control, some advocates aren't giving up on stalled bills. Domestic Workers are fighting for legislation that gives them paid vacation, sick days, and overtime. They held a rally near the Governor's office today. Feminist icon Gloria Steinem showed up to support them. Addressing the crowd in her signature tinted sunglasses, she said she was there to say thank you to domestic workers.
STEINEM: And to say no thank you to the state legislature that is sitting their doing nothing while household workers are working in their households, taking care of their children, doing their laundry, cleaning their apartments, it is a shame.
Governor Paterson has said he'd sign the domestic workers' bill if the Senate passes it.
