Some parents are uncomfortable with the board's unanimous support of Chancellor Klein. Jane Hirschmann, of the group "Time Out From Testing," says Klein and the Mayor have put too much emphasis on data and test scores.
HIRSCHMANN: They don't understand that our children don't come off assembly lines. And they made teachers into these data collectors, and our children are the widgets, the numbers. That's not what public school education is about.
REPORTER: But other education advocates, and the teachers union, praised the board's move, saying it preserves continuity. The Board of Education's next meeting isn't scheduled until September 10th. The mayor says he hopes the state Senate will renew mayoral control by then.
