Proposed Porn Tax Sparks Criticism
Monday, February 16, 2009
New York, NY –
Governor Paterson's proposal to tax web downloads of music and software four percent would apply to internet porn, and some people aren't happy about it.
The chairman of New York's conservative party said taxing porn legitimizes it. Meanwhile, since the tax would only apply to businesses based in New York State, it would give a competitive advantage to websites based elsewhere.
It's estimated that online porn brought in $2.84 billion last year.
