The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan can often feel far away from our every day lives. But for the families of the fallen, the impact is real and often poignant. Last month, Brooklyn Marine Lance Cpl. Julian T. Brennan died in Afghanistan. His death brought the total number of Americans who have died in the increasingly bloody conflict to 639.
Kathleen shared a memorial about Brennan last week on Morning Edition. Today, she joined Richard Hake on The Takeaway to talk more about why it's important to remember the fallen and all the unique details that make up an individual life. Brennan's family plans to hold a memorial for him in Brooklyn's Prospect Park today.
