Court Approves East River Waste Transfer Plan

The Bloomberg Administration's plan for a waste transfer station along the East River got a thumbs up from a state judge. Supreme Court Justice Michael Stallman ruled the facility at East 91st Street would not intrude upon public parkland and doesn't require the New York legislature's approval.
Opponents have argued that the Upper East Side is too densely populated to allow thousands of tons of garbage a day to be hauled through it each day.
The same judge rejected two earlier challenges to the environmental and land use review processes, finding that the potential impacts of the project had been adequately analyzed.
