Workers who clean Broadway theatres have a new 3-year tentative contract.
REPORTER: The deal averts an unwelcome strike during the booming holiday season. The cleaners, porters and matrons are set to get an increased contribution to their pension fund and a six-percent raise. In addition, Hector Figueroa, treasurer of Union 32 BJ, says workers are relieved they won't have to pay extra for healthcare.
FIGUEROA: Our members earn low wages and they do not need to pay an additional money on the premium to get their family health insurance. its totally employer provided.
REPORTER: The workers earn an average of $16 an hour. The contract will go into effect, once its ratified, in January.
In a statement, the Broadway League calls the agreement a win-win.
