New Yorkers' opinion of Governor David Paterson is so low, many think he should reconsider running for re-election. A new poll released by Quinnipiac University shows voters disapprove of the job Paterson is doing, 60 percent to 28 percent. That's the lowest approval rating EVER for a New York Governor. And by a three to one margin, most say Paterson should not run for a full, four-year term. Paterson's slide began after his botched handling of Caroline Kennedy, and his appointment of Hillary Clinton's successor in the Senate, and deepened with the passage of a budget that boosts spending by nearly nine percent. Responding to these charges, Paterson says that, when it comes to his low approval ratings, it's the economy, stupid.
PATERSON: Right now we have a historically high budget deficit so it would follow that whoever is supervising it would have historically low poll numbers.
The poll of about 1500 registered voters was taken last week, and has a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.
