Fossella Convicted of Drunk Driving

Saturday, October 18, 2008

Staten Island Congressman Vito Fossella has been convicted of drunken driving in suburban Virginia. After a daylong trial at Alexandria General District Court Friday, a judge found Fossella guilty of driving under the influence shortly after midnight on May 1st. The arrest led to revelations that Fossella had fathered a child outside of his marriage. New York City's only Republican congressman decided not to seek re-election as a result of the scandal. The judge said she will hold a hearing in December to determine if prosecutors met the legal threshold for high blood alcohol content, which would mean a mandatory five-day jail sentence.
