Term Limits Testimony Continues in Council

A second day of heated testimony and debate continues at City Hall over Mayor Bloomberg's proposed legislation to change the city's term limits law. Elected officials from across the city have been appearing before the council since 10 this morning to offer their views and take questions.
REPORTER: Congressman Anthony Weiner, who has said he will run for mayor whether or not Bloomberg gets a chance to vie for a third term, exhorted the Council to hold a voter referendum on the question.
WEINER: Think about what the headlines will be. Michael Bloomberg, Ron Lauder, Billionairs Form Deal. City Council says despite the fact that we're self-interested we're going to rise up and let them decide.
REPORTER: Ron Lauder, the architect of the current term limits law, has said he supports Bloomberg's bid to have the Council legislatively extend term limits from two to three terms.
Earlier today, Council members heard from some of the mayor's staunchest supporters, including Time Warner Chairman Richard Parsons, who testified the current economic crisis calls for experience and proven leadership.
