It's been nine years since the state legislature put an end to the tax on out-of-towners, but could the commuter tax have a second life? That was a question posed by the council finance committee yesterday.
Here's how the mayor's budget director, Mark Page responded.
PAGE: I think certainly we would be ready, willing and eager to pursue a renewal of the commuter tax. I don't know what odds I'd give for the success at this point.
REPORTER: But the council's finance committee chair David Weprin was more optimistic, saying the commuter tax could raise $700 million in its first year of renewal, and was certainly worth another push.
