MTA Board Nixes Lifetime EZ Passes

The board of directors of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has voted to discontinue a major perk: lifetime EZ Passes.
REPORTER: Traditionally, the MTA gave out the automobile passes as a gift to departing members of the board, who serve without pay. But, once that fact came to light, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo warned the agency he believes the passes constitute an illegal form of compensation.
Following today's vote, some board members said they were bowing more to public pressure than to any law. But Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said it was the right decision any way you look at it.
CUOMO: People say they would have won in court. Usually, if they would have won in court, they would have gone to court.
REPORTER: 34 former MTA Board members must now give up their EZ Passes.
