New York will create an Internet registry for home health aides to help combat Medicaid fraud. Home health care is one of the fastest growing parts of the health care economy.
REPORTER: Along with Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says the state needs to do more the prevent fraud instead of prosecuting after its occurred.
CUOMO: I could put my entire office on this, full-time, do nothing else, and still not put a dent in the problem.
REPORTER: The Internet registry would provide background information on an estimated 130,000 home health aides. A similar mechanism already exists for those who work in nursing homes. Cuomo said he expected the new registry to be in place by the end of the year.
