Bloomberg: Corruption Not Widespread in DOB
Monday, June 09, 2008
New York, NY –
Despite Friday's arraignment of a veteran crane inspector on bribery charges, Mayor Michael Bloomberg says corruption is not widespread in the city's Department of Buildings.
BLOOMBERG: I don't think it is very prevalent. I do think that any case of it however is very serious and we have no tolerance for it.
REPORTER: The mayor suggests low pay may have played a part in James Delayo's decision to accept bribes. The 60-year-old made $74,000 a year.
Delayo is the second crane inspector to be charged with a felony this year. Edward Marquette is charged with lying about inspecting a crane involved in an earlier collapse, in March.
