Thompson to Review Council Budget Funds
Wednesday, April 09, 2008
New York, NY –
The city comptroller is the latest official looking into revelations that the City Council set aside discretionary funds in fake organizations.
Comptroller William Thompson wrote to Council Speaker Christine Quinn today, saying his office would now review all agency agreements that receive discretionary funds, before the funds are disbursed. He's also asking the auditing firm Deloitte and Touche to independently audit the council's discretionary fund budget process.
THOMPSON: I still am a believer in the Speaker's integrity. So I'm hopeful that we'll be able to work together on this to incorporate these recommendations in the budget process for this year. And that budget process is rapidly approaching.
REPORTER: Speaker Quinn said she hadn't seen the letter but was willing to work with Thompson. The U.S. Attorney and the city Department of Investigation are also looking into the matter.
