Self-Employed on the Rise in New York
Wednesday, October 24, 2007
New York, NY –
The number of self-employed New Yorkers has doubled in the past 30 years to make up 16% of the city’s working population. That's about 700,000 people – and that doesn’t count everyone in New York who’s off the books.
The self-employed are all around us - driving a cab, looking after our kids or doing our taxes. As companies increasingly seek to save money on benefits by hiring fewer full-time staff, more and more people are becoming their own boss, as Ashley Milne-Tyte reports for WNYC.
