WNYC has learned that the international Association of Firefighters plans to send a video to a quarter million union members strongly criticizing former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. WNYC's Elaine Rivera reports:
REPORTER: The six-minute video will be sent to 280,000 firefighters in the next two weeks. Jeff Zack a union spokesman, says the association wants to debunk what they call the myth surrounding Rudy Giuliani and his role in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
ZACK: When it came to preparing the firefighters in New York City and the only known terrorist target in the nation, at the time, which was the World Trade Center, Rudy failed
REPORTER: Zack says the video will feature New York City firefighters and family members who died in the attacks. The Giuliani campaign had retired firefighter Lee Ielpi, who lost his son, respond to the video. Ielpi praised the former mayor and said the union is allowing its Democratic political leanings to derail Giuliani's campaign. For WNYC, I'm Elaine Rivera
