New Witness Comes Forward in Bell Case
Thursday, March 15, 2007
New York, NY –
There may be a new development for grand jurors weighing the fatal police shooting of Sean Bell. A spokesman for the Queens District Attorney said his office is aware that a person came forward yesterday and admitted he'd witnessed the shooting. The man may have also seen a man fire a gun at the police before they opened fire on Bell and his friends.
This would renew the controversial fourth-man theory that a civilian with a gun fled the scene. It's not clear whether the grand jury will hear from the person or not. The grand jury is expected to reconvene today. The grand jurors have been instructed to consider several criminal charges against the five officers or acquit them of any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, Reverend Al Sharpton and the two men shot in Bell's car have already called a press conference for this afternoon to question the credibility of the surprise witness. They want police to investigate the witness and whether he's lying.
