Clinton Speaks Up at Gala

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

It wasn't a fundraiser for her, but Hillary Clinton received a warm reception at a gala celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Gay Mens Health Crisis. WNYC's Fred Mogul has more.

REPORTER: Many in the GMHC audience said they weren't completely sold on Clinton but were impressed with her knowledge on AIDS funding and various programs. Several people said they wished she had also spoken about same-sex marriage. Hal Moskowitz was one of them - though he generally gives her the benefit of the doubt.

MOSKOWITZ: I'd like to believe she's saying what she needs to say, 'cause she needs to get elected, but that once she gets elected, she'll do the right thing.

REPORTER: Moskowitz and his partner of 24 years expressed a frustration held by many that no major presidential candidate supports full-fledged gay marriage. Others at the event were more pragmatic, saying that the top priority is to win the White House and worry about everything else later. For WNYC, I'm Fred Mogul.
