Long Island Housing Costs Skyrocket
Friday, January 26, 2007
New York, NY –
If you live on Long Island and you're feeling financially squeezed, a new report shows you're in good company.
A new survey shows almost 6 in 10 Long Islanders say they're having trouble paying their monthly housing expenses. More than half say they're thinking about moving - even though an overwhelming majority still thinks Long Island is a good or excellent place to live.
The study says average wages have grown slowly, while housing costs have soared in recent years. More than 800 Long Islanders were surveyed for the study, which is called the Long Island Index.
It was sponsored by the Rauch Foundation, an organization based in Garden City.
