Galt Dropped from Deutsche Bank Project
Thursday, August 23, 2007
New York, NY –
The contractor dismantling the former Deutsche Bank building has been dropped from the project. Bovis Lend Lease, the general contractor, sent a letter to the John Galt Corporation, alerting them that their contract will end in 5 days.
REPORTER: Galt was cited for dozens of safety violations during its work on the building. Residents of lower Manhattan have blasted the company for its failures. Julie Menin, chair of Community Board 1, says she's relieved Galt was finally been removed from the project.
MENIN: This is definitely a step in the right direction and incredibly important. I mean, given the number of OSHA violations, the number of DOB complaints associated with the subcontractor, it was imperative that this step be taken.
REPORTER: Several safety violations have been issued to both Bovis and Galt. The fire department is conducting its own investigation after a Saturday's fatal fire. It hasn't determined a cause for the blaze yet.
