Newark's Penn station is in bloom today with a myriad of flowering plants outside the train station hub.
REPORTER: Karen McAllen of New Jersey Transit was out this morning helping volunteers place and plant stone planters on the perimeter outside of City Hall.
The project is part of a program called Beautiful Newark, a partnership between Mayor Corey Booker and Superintendent of Schools Marion Bolden.
It allows individuals and corporations a chance adopt a 3 foot by 3 foot planter for a year and fill it with what ever they want.
BOOKER: In the center we have a unifying plant which is Drisina. All of the planters have it and they can put seasonal flowers, things that make them feel good, that make the area feel good.
REPORTER: The program, molded after adopt a highway programs. McAllen says of the 75 planter available, 60 have been adopted so far.
