Friday, November 10, 2006

New York now has its own memorial to Vietnam veterans. It was unveiled today, on the eve of Veterans Day, in Lower Manhattan. Vince McGowan, president of the United War Veterans Council says interest in the city's historic war memorials has increased after Nine Eleven.

McGOWAN: This has become a community point here in lower Manhattan for the Veterans community at large and for the Veterans tourist industry that has recently started to grow in Manhattan.

REPORTER: The memorial is made up of a battle map of Vietnam, and tribute panels honoring the 1476 New Yorkers killed there.
