One Cop's Journey from Iraq to New York City

Dan Maher spent a year as a drill sergeant there, teaching new Iraqi soldiers how to search for weapons and defend themselves against insurgents. He also used a micro-cassette recorder to tape his daily life in Iraq. Now Maher has returned to New York, where he's back on the city's streets in an NYPD uniform. WNYC's Marianne McCune spoke with Maher and used his recordings of life in Iraq AND in New York to give you a sense of his experience coming back from the war.
