Fire on Amtrak Train Forces Evacuation

Tuesday, December 26, 2006

An Amtrak train caught fire during the holiday weekend, forcing an evacuation. 131 people left the train so the Rochester Fire Department could put out the fire.

The train was on its way from Toronto to New York City. The passengers were placed on buses to Albany where they caught connecting trains to the city.

Investigators say the fire started in the engine compartment of a passenger car, but are still trying to determine how it started.
