The WNYC WPA Murals

In the 1930s and 40s the federal Works Progress Administration, or WPA, commissioned artists to paint murals in public buildings all over the country, and you can still see their distinctive images of workers, soldiers, and smokestacks. But in New York City, the WPA commissioned abstract artists to paint murals-- and most of that work has disappeared. WNYC's Judith Kampfner has more.
