New York, NY –
Designers, taxi drivers and public officials gathered in Greenwich Village yesterday to discuss how taxis can be improved for both cabbies and riders.
REPORTER: The workshop looked at a range of technical upgrades, including how to better fit baby strollers and wheelchairs. Christopher Mount, with The Parsons School Of Design, says these improvements are easy to implement.
MOUNT: If we got more taxi stands, if we were able to call a taxi, if we got better cabs maybe in a couple of years when the old Crown Vics sort of wear out I think we'd all be better off.
REPORTER: The Taxi and Limousine Commission is accepting proposals for yellow cab upgrades. Ideas being considered include putting Global Positioning Systems in cabs to improve service.
